Tom's information point and shelter is constructed from reinforced cast concrete. The
shelter is redolent in its form of an industrial structure, such as a
military observation station or a water tower. Situated just off the main
path and within close proximity to the trees and picnic area, the piece
becomes a boundary post - marking out territory. The formal qualities of
the piece connect with children's stories of castles, princesses and knights
in armour. With an increasing amount of school and community groups
utilising the Trail, we envisage this piece of work being a fascinating
focal point for many of our younger visitors and curious adults.
Autumn 2006 update: This sculpture has recently been repainted and refurbished, and a new
map of the Trail will be added to it shortly.
